Cybertraining-4-Parents

A EUROPEAN TRAINING COURSE AGAINST CYBERBULLYING FOR TRAINERS AND PARENTS

Cyber bullying

Cyberbullying is a new form of school bullying that involves the use of electronic devices such as e-mail, instant messaging, chat rooms, mobiles, or other forms of information technology. Recent research has indicated that cyberbullying poses a substantial problem within schools.

What is the Cyber Training-4-Parents Project
The EU-funded CyberTraining-4-Parents project (http://cybertraining4parents.org), provided in-service training courses on cyberbullying for adult educators working with parents. The courses conveyed a basic understanding of new information and communication technologies and Internet safety. Furthermore, it introduces the topic of cyberbullying, its sources, prevalence and effects, legal issues related to cyberbullying and strategies for the detection, intervention and prevention of cyberbullying.

In 15 face-to-face training courses that were held in Germany, Ireland, Norway, Portugal and Israel, more than 250 adult educators were equipped with knowledge and resources on new media and ways to deal with cyberbullying. Moreover, more than 70 adult educators from across Europe, North and South America aswell as Asia, participated in moderated online courses held by the partners. All trainers who participated in those courses received a comprehensive resource package consisting of PowerPoint slides, a trainer guide and a training manual for trainers, that they can use in their work with parents.

How is this useable by Parents?
Now, at the end of the CyberTraining-4-Parents project, additional online resources for parents have been provided in eBook format. The online course addresses individual parents interested or affected by cyberbullying. It can be used by parents who attend the face-to-face courses offered by trainers or as a stand-alone by parents who did not attend the face-to-face courses before. The English version of the parents course is available at http://www.cybertraining4parents.org/ebook (Other language links are available below)
