Basketball in St. Francis College

Basketball has been recently resurrected in Rochestown College. Teams prior to this had been coached by Fr Aengus in a period from 1960 to 1980. From September 2007, Jason Barry restarted basketball in the College where he prepared the students for the first matches in decades. Both the Under 16 and Under 19 teams were chosen within the first few weeks of his arrival and preparation began for the C league.

In the following months, the first and second year teams were also established and the games followed. Rochestown had now recommenced a sport that they had great success with in past years

By 2008, basketball had begun to expand. The demand for basketball increased amongst pupils as the numbers within the school grew. At this stage Rónán Lucey was enlisted onto the coaching staff and training for Basketball commenced once again on both Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.

Since the re-establishment of Basketball in Rochestown College, both Junior and Senior teams have been moved up to the B league as a result of the first year team winning the Cork school league.

Basketball competitions for both under 16 and 19 are played prior to Christmas. Both first and second year training commences after Christmas with games following shortly afterwards.
