The 2012 season so far has been a great success and we are now in the qualifying stages of the All-Irelands.
We began with trials and after a few weeks of them the team was picked and the games began. The team consisted of 14 players. Owen Connolly, Dylan Burke, Conor Flynn, Conor Ryan, Ian Kiley, David Walsh, Killian Coleman, Simon Darcy, Aaron Calnaghan, Mathew Butler, Jonathon Tyrell, Killian Ahern, Shane O’Callaghan and Billy O’ Dwyer. The first game was away to Skibereen and we won along with U19’s. The second was away also to Kinsale in Riverstick. We won this also after a slow start. The third game was against Carrigaline at home. We won this game in overtime even though we were missing several important fourth year players because of work experience. Our last group game was against Spioraid Naomh. We won this and booked our place in the the semi-finals of Cork. We were to play Carrig na Bhfear.
We had played this side in previous years and had come out victorious. This time was no different and we beat them as we had done previously. This guaranteed our spot in the All-Ireland qualifiers however we still had the Cork finals to win and to boost the reputation of the sport in the school. Coláiste Chriost Rí who were the school rivals were too be our opponents. Our hopes were high going into the game and after a great defensive effort and reasonable offense we took home the silverware and won the U 16 Cork Colleges Championship The All-Ireland trophy was in our sights and the win had brought us one step closer to our goal.
