A year to remember on the football field 2011

St. Francis College, Rochestown recorded a year to remember on the football pitch with three wins in the U 14 Cork Colleges, U 16 ½Munster and Senior Cork Colleges grades. Usually a victory in any competition, hurling or football would be considered a successful year for GAA in the College, but three competitions won in the same year is a remarkable achievement and much credit must go to the players for their hard work and commitment this year.

The U 14’s won an “A” Cork Colleges for the second year running, beating Colaiste Chríost  in the final.

The 16 ½ footballers won the first Munster title in living memory defeating Mounthawk of Tralee in a thrilling final.

The Senior footballers also played with some style this year winning a Cork College’s final and reaching a Munster semi-final, only to be ultimately be defeated by Carrigaline after extra time.

It is refreshing and encouraging to know that our efforts on the pitch are part of a proud tradition for the school and hopefully further successful chapters will be written in the coming years as the College goes from strength to strength on the GAA field.
